MISSION
To be the very best we can be at implementing The Great Commission in the Northwest Valley
To follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in his command to us:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded them. And remember, I am with you always to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:20
VISION
Advent a bridge to a better life through Christ
This bridge is realized through worship, evangelism, ministry, outreach study, fellowship, stewardship and fun -- as a family in Christ.
Episcopal Church of the Advent serves the people of Surprise, El Mirage, Youngtown, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Wittmann and Avondale and the surrounding communities including Sun City West, Sun City Grand, Corta Bella, and Arizona Traditions. We are convenient to the whole area, located just north of Bell Road in Sun City West. Our current congregation consists mostly of retiree to children.
Our worship style is the Episcopal Traworship style in the Episcopal Tradition with services taken from the Book of Common Prayer. We normally use Rite II with Rite I used during Advent and Lent, reflecting the penitential theme of those seasons. Service music for the 10:15 am is generally from the various approved hymnals with Choir music for anthems rangeing from classical to modern and folk. Contemporary music for the 9:00 am range from popular Christian favorites to modern Christian rock.
Advent's first service was held in the lecture hall at R. H. Johnson Recreation Center in Sun City West. The first Sunday in Advent, December 2, 1979, was attended by 18 people. We have grown to a congregation of over 700 families. The ground breaking for our beautiful "mission style" church took place December 2, 1984 and our first service was held in the new church building the first Sunday of Advent in 1985. A Social Hall, Paine Hall, was built in 1989 and a new office wing was added in 1992. There is an outdoor Chapel built in ________ called All Souls’ Chapel that has been chosen by many parishioners as their final resting resting place.
